Overview Staff Accountant MyEyeDr is one of the largest optical retailers in the $30+billion US eyecare industry and is the fastest growing full-service eye care company in the United States, with offices located throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. The Staff Accountant role serves as a subject matter expert/ liaison for lease accounting as well as acquisition accounting and transition, and provides overall accounting guidance to the accounting team. This role will provide overall journal entry, expense management, and audit support within the general accounting team and will serve as a lead for ensuring that accounting is in accordance with company policies and US GAAP. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibilities: Assist management with technical research on complex accounting topics Prepare various landlord reporting and ensure all lease requirements are met and executed timely Review and prepare acquisition accounting workpapers and support valuation Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process Close responsibilities include (but are not limited to) journal entries, expense management, budgetary support for cost centers, account analysis, and ad hoc analysis Prepare and/or review various balance sheet reconciliations as assigned Assist with the annual financial audit requests Deliver solutions on tight deadlines Assist in maintaining and documenting accounting policies Identifies opportunities for improving processes and functions based on operational needs and makes recommendations to accounting leadership. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA, preferred. 5-7 years related experience in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience Public accounting experience preferred Project experience preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Motivation, Innovation, Passion, Integrity, Teamwork, Customer-Focus Motivated self-starter with strong ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously is required Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving and analytical skills but also able to step back to see the bigger picture Superb ability to identify, analyze, and resolve accounting and system issues Strong knowledge of US GAAP; retail experience preferred but not required Ability to think strategically and innovatively while working in a collaborative team oriented environment Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management to maximize performance and provide excellent customer service Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Knowledge of and proficiency in an ERP system such as Oracle or SAP Experience in acquisition accounting preferred but not required Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
